Does Polyester Release Microplastics When You Wash It?

Yes: laboratory and domestic-washing studies have repeatedly measured microfiber release from polyester textiles, although the amount varies greatly by textile construction and washing conditions. Recent reviews also emphasize that methods differ between studies, so individual reported quantities should not be treated as universal.
